I like E.M. a lot. Not just because of Maurice. I don't think the novel is his best. Not like Howards End. But considering when it was written, it's great. Both for Forster's bravery in writing it. And his caution and foresight to keep it hidden from a world that wasn't ready. Thomas Mann & Henry James's must have destroyed their hidden novels. I'm hiding mine in plain sight.
